British Columbia Process Server
What you need to know
Finding a process server in British Columbia can be more difficult than you think. From finding a trustworthy and qualified person, to finding one that will provide the service in your area, it’s a lot of work. Personally, we recommend using the app – Court Runner! It’ll save you a lot of trouble in the long run, especially if you’re looking for a regular process server.
Regardless of who you choose or what path you choose to take, you’ll need to have all of your documents sorted and ready to go before you start. Knowing what documents you are serving on the defendants is the most important part—without it, you can’t start.

Hiring a British Columbia Process Server
Once you’ve determined that everything is set, you can look up British Columbia process servers, and start narrowing down! Make sure that you’re looking for process servers in your area (and not just British Columbia process servers) if you know the recipient is there.
If you aren’t sure about the whereabouts or exact address of the party you need serving to, then you need to order a skip trace search.
In this case, you need to get in touch with a general British Columbia process server, who will then be able to start organizing a skip trace, and let you know the total fee for delivering the documents. While this will definitely hike up the prices, if the lawsuit (or other proceeding) is important, this will most certainly be worth it.
Skip tracing and most process servers cover those who have gone into another province, and some may reach the international level, although this is entirely case-by-case. For this situation, you will have to get in contact with a few different process servers to get started.
With Court Runner though, that hours, or even days long process will be cut down to just a few minutes to set up, and a few minutes to hand over the documents to your process server. Trust us – our verified servers will take care of the rest!
British Columbia process service prices start out at a minimum of $60 across the board including fees and mileage for 1 or more attempts, but depending on the area, can be up to $150.
Make sure to double check available attempts as well, as these vary greatly between an inclusive 3, to only 1.

What if the Process Server was unsuccessful?
This is an inevitable possibility. It is not possible to infallibly predict where a person will be to serve them with court documents. If after three attempts, the process server is unable to serve the documents on the other party i.e. defendant/respondent, then they will need to fill out an affidavit of attempted service – stating what happened in all three attempts, and get it notarized by a commissioner of oath.
What next after the affidavit of attempted service is notarized? The Process Server will hand it over to the one who ordered the service who will then take it to the court. The court will inform them of your next action to take. For example, they might grant you a substitute or alternative service (meaning you may serve the other party by post, email, etc.)
